A shoe flies over reporters towards G.W.Bush. It fails the target. Another one, same fate. Which shoe flew first, right or left foot? Was the speed above average for a furious shoe throw? Does the speed correlate directly to the anger level? Or does it to the thrower's certitude of the rightness of his gesture? Was the second shoe faster or slower? Did it denounce a growing fury and determination, or a reasoning of the consequences of the first throw, a embrio of regret? Did the shoes smell? What about the thrower's socks, we're they better then the world bank’s sort?
And Bush!? Was he cool? Was the humorous counter shoe from Bush the best reaction possible? Was it a typical Bush moment? We're those reflexes above average for a caucasian president in the 60-70 range? Was his reaction sensible and laudable, in that fragile context, and from someone as the Bush we see everyday?
One thing's for sure: it would take more then the admirable courage we all saw, it would take a suicide bomber's altruism, it would take a fearless thrower, fearless of torture and certain death, was he to throw a shoe at someone, at a "press conference" in Bagdad some time ago.
Yes, it was Bush that with so many others, right or wrong, made the throw possible. It was Bush that removed the inverted commas from press conference two sentences ago.
